Sushi Shop (formerly Sushi Go) on 20 Plateau #3 is playing a risky game. The owner and staff would benefit from visiting other Sushi Shop locations and paying close attention to the basics that have made this franchise successful elsewhere because this location falls far, far below that standard. Honestly, it’s beyond disappointing. Worth to note (as it doesn’t necessarily always show up) but there is a second « official page » for the same location and address (possibly linked to the former owner’s account). There are recent reviews on that one that seem to mirror the experience we had… One should wonder if the other reviews here (5⭐️) are legitimate… Also worthy of a mention, while we are at this - and maybe this is just a glitch on my side - but below the average rating, it says 7 reviews, but only 5 are currently visible (including mine). Average shows 3.9 and there should be a 2⭐️ review that is nowhere to be seen. I have tried with both Safari and Chrome to no avail : some reviews do appear to have been hidden. I am therefore including a picture of my invoice to prove this is legitimate and hopefully avoid removal by Google. Now onto what this is all about, the actual food : There’s a sign at the cash advertising a free chef’s special roll for orders over $40. Our order was well over $100, yet nothing was included. If it had been just that, I wouldn’t have bothered writing such an extensive review… I’ve been eating sushi regularly for over 20 years, and I have never experienced rolls like these from a Sushi Shop. Even grocery store sushi, which is usually mediocre at best, is rolled tighter than what we were served. Most of the rolls were falling apart immediately. The only thing that held together properly was the hosomaki. Then came the nigiri and sashimi. The nigiri were already very thin, but the sashimi was the real low point: the slices were so thin they literally fell apart as we tried to pick them up. To make matters worse, even the all-you-can-eat sushi place in Aylmer (G&V) serves thicker sashimi than what we received here - and that says a lot. AYCE sushi places are quite literally the only places I’ve ever had thin sashimi like this. I obviously don’t mind it there because I can have as many as I want… This is however not acceptable at 5$ for 2 pieces. Considering this location took over after the former owner (who owned both Sushi Go and Sesame) went out of business, the difference in quality compared to Sushi Shop on Vanier (which is miles above this one) should be deeply concerning. This location is heading down a dangerous path if this is their standard. I regret to say we won’t be back. I love sushi far too much to take that risk again.
